Boston Museum of Fine Arts Hosts 7 Screenings and Programs For Alcott Film
September-October 2008: Boston’s cinematic hub, the Museum of Fine Arts, devoted seven program slots to The Woman Behind Little Women. The Massachusetts premiere evening on September 27 was followed by a party for production participants and friends. Subsequent showings featured follow-up programs with Pulitzer Prize-winner and interviewee John Matteson, a panel sponsored by Women in Film and Video and Filmmakers Collaborative on making historical documentary, a panel featuring Jan Turnquist, Director of Orchard House, on filming in historic houses, and a discussion of Louisa May Alcott’s influence on women’s lives featuring Megan Marshall, author of The Peabody Sisters, Professor Beverly Clark of Wheaton College, and Emerson College poet-in-residence Gail Mazur.
Documentary Wins Grand Award of Providence Film Festival
August 9, 2008: Louisa May Alcott: The Woman Behind Little Women had its world premiere at the Rhode Island International Film Festival in Providence, RI. About 400 people turned out on a sunny Saturday afternoon to catch the documentary’s first outing and a Q & A with Director Nancy Porter and Writer Harriet Reisen. The five-star review in the Providence Journal began with a call-out over the masthead on the front page that read: “Louisa May Alcott is a Reel Festival Gem.”
